Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know the installation of my smart meter will be safe and practical?

A code of practice has been developed for the roll-out of smart metering to make sure you get a high standard of service throughout the installation process.

All suppliers must follow the rules set out in the code of practice for every installation. The code covers how your appointment will be handled, the training and skills that the engineer must have, and the information and support that you must be offered during the process.

These standards are set out in the Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice (SMICoP). You can download a copy of SMICoP here.
